Gran Canaria is an Island of natural beauty with golden dunes and beaches, historical villages, commercial centres with busy nightlife and fantastic shopping. Gran Canaria is home to many friendly people performing opera, museums, fiestas and classical music to entertain their vistors.
Annual average temperatures can reach as high as 24 degrees making Gran Canaria a Island to be enjoyed all year round. For the more active tourists a holiday to the Gran Canaria offers some fabulous outdoor activities including cycling, golf, tennis, trekking and rock climbing to name but a few, also there is opportunity to participate in activities such as windsurfing, para gliding, big game fishing and jet skiing.
Most of the resorts are found in the South of the island which is sunnier, such as San Agustín, Playa del Inglés, Sonnenland, Maspalomas and Meloneras. The Maspalomas dunes are located between Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas which also has its own light house. To the West are the resorts of Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán, a picturesque village referred to as "Little Venice" on account of its many canals. Agüimes, on the East Coast has been lovingly restored to its peaceful traditional Canarian self.
The area also has some of the best preserved cave dwellings, in the protected area of the Guayadeque Ravine, where the church has been built into the hillside and visitors can find a number of popular cave restaurants. Other places to visit include the stunning Palamitos Park in Maspalomas, this is an enormous zoological park housing many varieties of birds, mammals, reptiles and a recently opened dolphinarium!
Also there is the fabulous Cocodrilos Park at Aguimes, a fantastic attraction of crocodiles, baboons and Bengal tigers. It is a fantastic day out for the whole family.
