Barcelona, the historic Capital of Catalunya is the perfect destination for a City break in the sun or a longer week or fortnight holiday. The Gothic quarter is characterized by old tall buildings and narrow cobbled streets, here you will find a myriad of interesting boutiques and delightful Tapas bars as well as some fine peaceful squares to sit in and enjoy the surroundings. One piece of advice is to make mental notes while in this area as the labrynth of streets make it very easy indeed to find yourself lost!
The famous Las Ramblas is a 1km boulevard that cuts through the very heart of the City, it starts from the Port and finishes up at the Placa Catalunya. Mainly pedestrianised the Ramblas is a promenade of shops and pavement eateries serving such delights as Tapas, ice cream and coffee. There is a wax museum on the Ramblas and also an interesting museum of erotica with some very unusual exhibits! Although always busy in the daytime Las Ramblas really comes alive at night when you would be forgiven for thinking that the entire population of the City had turned up for their evening meal!
As you would imagine Barcelona has something for everyone, Museums, Catalan cuisine, fantastic shopping, architecture, a beach, FC Barcelona stadium tour to name a few. If you are not feeling that energetic you can experience the 'hop on hop off' tour with three seperate routes to explore or simply wander around the Royal Basilica or the Monastery of Montserrat.
